  Chapter One

  “You can’t keep me here forever,” Sarah said, folding her arms over her chest and refusing to back down.

  Ralf paced in front of her as she sat in their old apartment. He’d grabbed her yesterday and kept her hostage so far. At least he’d fed her, which was okay. She was so damn mad at him for dragging her back to Sinners’ Corner.

  “Going to the city is not the answer.” He was doing a lot of pacing, and he seemed to look a little strange.

  She snorted. “It wasn’t your decision to make.” A few months ago Ralf had decided to walk out on her, quit his deputy position, and go back to the Saints and Sinners MC. Sarah glared at the man she had been in love with for so long, but now, she was just angry with him. Ralf had left her, and when she had decided to move away he’d finally grown some balls. It was too late, and she was ready to move on.

  Not to mention your infatuation with a certain member of the Hell’s Wolves.

  Sarah thought about Knife, the MC member of a rival gang. It was a rival gang until Elena shacked up with the Prez, Pipe. Elena just so happened to also be the sister of Saint, the Prez of the Saints and Sinners MC. Very confusing, but either way both clubs were on amicable terms. The last time she’d spoken to Knife, everything had been okay.

  “We had a good thing,” Ralf said, coming to sit next to her.

  She had wasted a lot of nights crying over this man, and Sarah wasn’t going to go back to him. Ralf had walked away, leaving her alone. There was no way in hell she could ever trust him, not anymore. She’d never asked him to become a deputy, nor did she ask him for anything else.

  Shaking her head, she stood, moving toward the window, overlooking the town. It was alive with activity, and she even spotted several members of the two MCs walking down the street.

  “Your agreement with the Hell’s Wolves must be working out for you,” she said.

  “It’s working out for both clubs.”

  “I just bet it is.” She released a sigh, turning back to look at him. “So what is it going to be? You’re going to keep me here until you have no choice to let me go?”

  He moved away from the sofa, coming toward her. Ralf cupped her arms, and she felt nothing.

  “Being in the city alone is not for you, Sarah.”

  “Kidnapping me is the way?”

  “You’re being difficult.”

  “I’m not being difficult. You’re refusing to take the hint, and I’m finding this really irritating now.” She pulled away from him, no longer wanting his touch. In the last few months she had changed. Her relationship with Ralf had run its course. “Look, I’m tired, really tired right now, and I just want to have some rest.”

  “I love you, Sarah.”

  She sighed. How could she believe him? A man who loved his woman didn’t walk away. They didn’t ignore you until they were ready. Ralf, he’d left her, ignored her, and only when she left Sinners’ Corner did he actually start to care.

  “Sarah … Sarah…”

  Turning toward the door, she heard her best friend, Elena, knocking and calling her name. Before she could do or say anything, Ralf moved toward the door, opening it. He didn’t look happy about being interrupted.

  Elena was panting for breath, bent over, holding her side. She hadn’t long since given birth, and Sarah went to her.

  “I heard Saint saying you were back in town,” Elena said.

  “I’m here.”

  “You kidnapped her?” Elena glared at Ralf.

  “I did what I had to do—”

  “Can I stay with you?” Sarah said. The last thing she wanted was to be staying with Ralf. He clearly didn’t understand that she wanted to move on. Their paths had crossed, and it had been fleeting, but now she had changed. Sure, she still cared about him, but the love that was once there, it had gone, changed.

  “Sarah, this is your home.”

  “It’s not my home.”

  “She can stay with Elena,” Saint said, coming up the back stairs behind his sister.

  “She’s my old lady.”

  “You never put a ring on her finger, nor did you make an effort to bring her back.”

  “She’s here, right now,” Ralf said.

  “You kidnapped her. Unless Sarah wants to stay with you, she’s going to be with Elena.”

  “I want to go with Elena,” she said, looking at Saint.

  Elena’s brother was an enigma to her. They were always polite to each other, and she couldn’t remember a time when she saw him smile. Being the Prez of the Saints and Sinners MC, didn’t leave any wiggle room for him to play. She’d never seen him with a woman, and she doubted she ever would.

  “Sarah?”

  “I’m not trying to be difficult, Ralf. I didn’t ask you to bring me back. Please, just let me go.” She touched his arm and made her way toward the door. Elena opened her arms, and she hugged her best friend close. Saint watched over them, and she did her best to smile at him.

  “This is horseshit.”

  “I’ll stay here and deal with him,” Saint said. “It’s good to have you back, Sarah.”

  “Can I have my old job back?” She had missed the small town that she’d left behind. There was no doubt about that.

  “Yes. It’s yours.”

  Following Elena down the long flight of stairs, they exited the building, and Sarah made her pause.

  “I just want to catch my breath.”

  “You’re not out of breath.”

  “It’s not that. I just, give me a second, and I’ll be okay.” She stared up at the clear blue sky as the heat beamed down.

  “Are you okay?”

  “Yeah. Ralf would never hurt me. I just, it’s hard, you know? He’s been the love of my life for so long, and when you realize that you’re moving on, it just makes it even harder.”

  “Moving on?” Elena asked.

  “He touched me and I felt … nothing.” Sarah shrugged. “I guess I’ll have to see what that is all about.”

  “He did break your heart, Sarah. It has been nearly a year since he walked out.”

  “Speaking of all that time, how is my little girl? Where is my little girl?”

  Elena had given birth to a baby girl, Bluebell.

  “She’s with her daddy. Come on, he’s probably at the diner waiting for me. It’s lunchtime.”

  “You’re still working at Dirty Deeds?”

  “Only a couple of hours a week. I don’t want to do nothing. Being a mother is amazing, but there are just times I like to remember that I’m a woman.”

  “I guess there’s no better place to find that than at a sex store, being surrounded by implements of pleasure to remind you of all that you’re missing out on.”

  Elena snorted. “Not at all. I’m not missing out on an
ything.”

  “You dirty whore,” Sarah said, laughing. “I’ve missed you.” She hugged her friend tightly.

  “I’ve missed you, too. Come on, let’s go and get something to eat.”

  As they passed several people within the street, they stopped to say hi. Sarah didn’t recall the town ever being so caring, yet she’d not been home for some time.

  Entering the diner she spotted Pipe sitting in the back, holding a baby.

  Taking a seat opposite him, Sarah watched as Elena sat by her man’s side.

  “Hey, Sarah, how are you?” Pipe asked, handing Bluebell to her mother.

  “I’m doing good. I’m feeling much better now that I’m no longer with Ralf.” She ran her fingers through her hair.

  “I said she could stay with us. Is that okay?” Elena asked.

  “Of course it is. We’re at the cabin. You okay with that?”

  “Yep. A cabin, away from Ralf, and I’m more than happy about that.” She grabbed the menu and looked over what was on offer for breakfast.

  “I think you should be careful of Ralf.”

  “He’s not going to hurt me, Elena.”

  “Just be careful. Ralf never struck me as the kind of guy who’d walk out one month, and then try to kidnap you when he’s bored.”

  Sarah smiled. “So he did a crazy thing. Don’t worry about it.”

  “Watch your back.”

  “I will. I promise.”

  Over the menu she watched as Pipe sank his fingers into Elena’s hair, pulling her close and kissing her deeply. She watched, unable to look away from the consuming love and passion crossing Pipe’s face. This was part of the reason she’d had to get away from Sinners’ Corner. Even when the couple before her had been dating in secret, it had been more consuming than her relationship with Ralf. The comparison had been hard for her to make, but she’d made it anyway.

  “Please, you two, stop. People need to eat,” Knife said, suddenly appearing by the table. She looked up at the man who she had kept in contact with from the first night they’d been dancing together. “Hello, Sarah.”

  “Knife.” She licked her suddenly dry lips as she took in the vicious man. He’d never been mean to her, not one bit. Knife had always been nice to her, treating her with respect. She’d even call him a friend. When she first left town, he’d not begged her to come back. He’d made sure she was settled.

  “I gave him a call, letting him know that you were back in town.”

  She smiled. “I didn’t have much of a choice.”

  “Ralf kidnapped her.”

  Knife was staring at her, and she found it almost impossible to look away. “He kidnapped you?”

  “Kind of. He took me against my will, and now I’m in Sinners’ Corner eating with my best friend. I guess I can’t complain.” She did her best to make fun of what happened, but he didn’t smile.

  “Can I take a seat?”

  Sarah was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. Knife took in her glossy brown hair, which she had first covered with a hair dye. Her brown eyes were so dark and deep that he found it impossible to look away.

  “Sure.” She moved up, and he sat opposite his Prez. Knife had done what his leader had asked him by staying away from the young woman who was now back in town. It had been hard, but Pipe had asked that he give her time to know her own feelings. She’d been with that fucker Ralf, who had left her high and dry. Knife had been her shoulder to cry on. The guy she’d ranted and raved at.

  He hadn’t minded as it was refreshing to have a woman treat him as more than a cock. Sure, it was fun to get as much pussy as he did without much effort, but it would still be nice to have something more. Now he was just sounding like a pussy. There were plenty of guys who’d kill to have the kind of life he did.

  Taking a seat beside Sarah, he closed his eyes as he scented vanilla.

  “How is everything at the club?” Pipe asked, drawing his attention back.

  “Egg and Butt are handling everything right now. You’ve not got a thing to worry about.” The fights they had organized had been moved out of town toward an abandoned warehouse within the city. Pipe didn’t want any of that shit near his little girl. A lot had changed for the Hell’s Wolves since Elena had become part of their world. They were all still deadly, but Pipe just liked to make sure a lot of that shit stayed away from him.

  Knife couldn’t blame the man.

  Family came first.

  “Breakfast casserole sounds good,” Sarah said.

  “It is. The pancakes are good as well. So are the breakfast sandwiches,” Elena said.

  The sound of a stomach growling could be heard, and he looked at Sarah to see her cheeks go bright red. “I guess I’m hungry.”

  Knife signaled the waitress and waited to be served.

  “You didn’t have to do that,” Sarah said.

  “You’re hungry.”

  “I can wait.”

  This time he shrugged. “You could wait, but what’s the point of waiting if you don’t have to?”

  “I see your point.”

  “You should.”

  The waitress came to their table and took their orders. Knife made sure to order one of everything so Sarah could try at least something.

  “Hungry, Knife?” Pipe asked.

  “Ravenous.”

  His Prez was taunting him.

  “Now that you’re back, Sarah, maybe you could keep my guy here out of trouble,” Pipe said.

  “You’ve been in trouble?” Sarah asked. “You’ve not said anything on the phone.”

  Staring at his Prez, he gritted his teeth. Knife raised his brow as Pipe smirked.

  Bluebell chose that moment to let out an ear-piercing squeal.

  “She’s hungry, baby,” Pipe said.

  “I know, but I don’t want to feed her in here.”

  “Why not?”

  “In case it offends some people.”

  “Fuck ‘em, babe. My kid needs to eat.” Pipe leaned forward, removing his jacket, and placing it over Elena’s shoulders. It covered Bluebell’s head and offered privacy.

  Turning back toward Sarah, Knife rested his arm across her shoulders, and tried his hardest not to reach out and touch the soft locks of her hair. Damn, he just wanted to touch her. It had been too long since he’d seen her last, and being at the café where she worked hadn’t been close enough to her.

  “Are you okay?” he asked.

  “Yeah, I’m fine.”

  Pipe and Elena were talking in low tones, so Knife took the time to talk to his woman. “What are you going to do now that you’re back in town?”

  “I’ve already asked Saint for my job back. I’ll work at Dirty Deeds, and Elena’s offered me a bed at the cabin she shares with Pipe.” She sighed.

  “If you don’t want to stay, I’ll take you back.” He didn’t want to, but if it was what she wanted, he’d do it. For her, he’d do it.

  She shook her head. “No, I don’t want to go back to the city. There is nothing there for me, not really. This is home.”

  “Will you and Ralf be getting together?”

  She snorted. “Doubt it. There’s no way I can trust him after everything that he has done. He’s made it impossible to. I’m not going to be getting back with him. I’m here, but I’m not staying because of him.” She leaned in close, resting her head against his shoulder. “I think we should go out some time. Go dancing, what do you think?”

  “I love dancing,” Elena said, speaking up. “It has been so long since we went dancing, Pipe.”

  “How about we double date? Saint can have Bluebell for the night, and we go and have some fun.”

  “Would you like that?” Sarah asked. “I’d understand if you had a hot date or something.”

  The only person he was interested in was sitting beside him.

  “No hot date for me, unless you wear a dress, and it would be hot enough.”

  “You’ve always been so nice to me, Knife,
” she said.

  “He’s a nice guy,” Pipe said.

  The waitress brought their food to them, and he watched as Sarah dug into the breakfast casserole. It looked damn tasty.

  Cutting into a pancake, he covered it in maple syrup and took a bite. The sweetness was so good.

  “Here, try this.” Cutting another triangle, he offered it to Sarah, which she took.

  “Um, that is so good. I love food.” Sarah moaned, closing her eyes.

  “Me, too. It sucks that they don’t create food that allows us to lose weight at the same time,” Elena said.

  “What have I told you?” Pipe asked. “There’s nothing wrong with you. You’re perfect as you are.”

  “You are both so sweet together.” Sarah smiled at the couple, and Knife watched the sadness fill her eyes. She was such an easy woman to read. He wondered if she knew that, or maybe that was just him.

  He took another bite of his pancake as Elena and Sarah started talking about Dirty Deeds, and what needed to be done.

  When Bluebell was no longer happy just being fed and started becoming restless, the couple left, and he was alone with Sarah. Before Elena left she asked him to take Sarah to the cabin, and he’d agreed to.

  Sarah sighed, turning toward him. “So, what is going on in the land of Knife? Are you having an awesome time with your collection?”

  Knife chuckled. “Not really. I’ve been dealing with the two clubs. We’ve got a new deal with the Saints and Sinners MC, you know?”

  “You mean where you’re nice to each other, and you’re not pulling your dicks out to measure them.”

  “That stings, babe, you know the Hell’s Wolves would always win that race.”

  She laughed, resting against him. “I missed you.”

  “Did you find what you were looking for?”

  “I wasn’t looking for anything.” She twirled her fork on her empty plate. “I don’t know why I left really. Being with Ralf, I thought I had to leave because of the pain, but it wasn’t that.”

  “What was it?”

  “I had to find myself again.”
