Prologue
“If you touch her, I’ll fucking kill you. No one will ever be able to identify your corpse. I will make you pay.” Jaxson Pierce couldn’t believe it had come to this.
Noelle Hunt, his boss’s sister and the fucking love of his life, was tied to a chair at the mercy of the fucking animals he’d been trying to protect her from.
He tugged on the cuff that kept him chained to the wall, watching as Dusty ran a hand down Noelle’s body. When he got out of these cuffs, he was going to fucking cut off those fingers one at a time. He didn’t stop pulling at the cuffs that bound him.
The sound of her whimper echoing around the room would stay with him forever.
Dusty pinched her tit and groaned. “You know, I was going to kill her fast, but I think it would be better if I take my time. I wonder how he’ll cope when you’re screaming for help as I fuck you, babe. I bet her pussy is so fucking tight.”
Dusty laughed.
He licked her cheek, and Jaxson forced himself to keep on watching. For her to look at him, and to know he was going to get them the fuck out of here.
There was no way he could allow anything to happen to her.
He’d taken a vow to protect her. To love her. To be there when she needed it most, and no one would ever make him break a vow. No one fucking ever.
Gritting his teeth, he knew things were about to get worse, but he couldn’t do anything.
Tears spilled down Noelle’s face, and Jaxson for the first time in his life prayed for a miracle to get them both out of this shitstorm.
Chapter One
Two months earlier
Nothing like the sounds of a woman’s orgasm in the morning. Jaxson chewed his gum and checked the time to see it was a little after ten in the morning. It wasn’t like his boss and best friend, Dane Hunt, to be this late.
Leaning against the wall, he glanced around the room and saw the remnants of a good night with a woman before him. Clothes were strewn all over the floor, and a bottle of wine lay empty on the carpet. Glasses were on the table top and what unnerved him the most, the telltale signs of coke being used.
Last time he checked, Dane didn’t do coke.
This wasn’t how he wanted to spend his Monday morning. The moment he got the call from Dane though, like all the years before, he came running. He didn’t know nor did he do any other way. They had each other’s backs, end of story.
Right now, though, he was pissed. He could have been checking on a couple of the clubs, some of their businesses, or Noelle, who also happened to be Dane’s sister. He couldn’t allow himself to think of Noelle, the curvy brunette with her fuckable lips and wide brown eyes. She made him ache, especially when he saw her body. He’d give anything to have those thick, juicy thighs wrapped around his waist and her large, ripe tits bouncing in front of his face.
The last thing he’d do was mention that little tidbit to Dane though. When it came to Noelle, he would never mention anything to Dane.
The fucker was a loose cannon half the time, and the only one who was able to get through to him was Noelle.
Where Dane was a maniac and crazy son of a bitch, Noelle was the complete opposite. Sexy, cute, sweet as a button. She had the patience of a saint and a smile to go with it. As long as he’d known them, they’d been inseparable. Dane being the older, he had to take responsibility of Noelle when their parents died. She’d been young when they died.
Well, they didn’t technically just die.
Dane murdered them.
It was part of an agreement, an alliance with a street crew that had gotten him the deals with the cartels that landed them in the drug business.
During the past fifteen years, Jaxson had been by Dane’s side. He vowed to protect his best friend, and by doing that, he made sure Dane didn’t get himself killed.
The original crew they had struck out at and who had requested he take out his parents, were now all dead. They had given him a test of loyalty, which he passed by killing his parents. No one told Dane what to do, so it wasn’t long before he took his revenge. They were rotting in a well somewhere, each one piled high and under water.
There were times he found Dane there, staring into the well. He often wondered if that was where he stored all the bodies that he didn’t cut up or burn alive.
Again, Dane was a psycho with the boy next door looks.
A real fucking charmer.
“That’s it, Dane. Fuck yeah, that feels good. Don’t stop, don’t stop.”
“That’s right, babe. Who’s your fucking daddy?” Dane asked.
Seconds later a growl erupted as Jaxson heard Dane come.
These sounds would never leave his mind.
He would always hear them echoing off the walls, sickening and twisted.
“Who’s your daddy? What the fuck, Dane? I don’t need to hear this shit. I’m waiting for you.”
He heard the woman let out a little scream, and seconds later she appeared in front of him, completely naked, eyes looking wild, and her hands going to her body as if to cover herself.
Dane followed behind her, looking rather pleased with himself as he put his dick away.
“Didn’t expect you so soon,” Dane said.
“Seriously, you told me ten o’clock. I’m right here, and you even left the door open.”
“You left the door open so he could hear us?” the woman asked. She looked pissed off, as if her dignity had been affected.
With what he just heard, it was something she really shouldn’t worry about. He wasn’t going to jump her anyway.
“Are we done here? Can we move on?” Jaxson asked.
“You let him talk to you like that?” she asked.
“Do you even know this slut’s name?” He looked at Dane, who smirked.
“Babe, give us a minute.”
Jaxson stared at his friend, waiting. “Name?”
“She doesn’t need a name,” Dane said.
“You don’t even know my name?” the woman asked.
“Go in the bedroom. Hurry the fuck up, so you can get out of my place, now.” Dane used the tone that told women not to fucking argue with him.
The woman clearly knew not to, and turned and left without another word.
Dane smirked.
“This shit isn’t ours,” he said, leaning forward and pointing at the table.
“You tasting product?” Jaxson asked.
“Are you fucking shitting me? Hell, no. There’ve been a couple of deaths across the city. Ryan came to me. He was worried that something was in our product that was killing people. Our stuff gives people a high. We don’t want them to die.”
Jaxson knew the reasoning. Killing their customers killed their money. It made no sense.
“So?”
“So, I got little cokehead there to go and score me a bag, and guess what, there’s an entire new chain of supply in the city. They’re going into nightclubs, not just the ones we own either. We’re talking across the en
tire fucking city, and there’s talk of networks outside of the States. We’re talking about Europe and shit like that.”
“No one can have a distribution that fast,” Jaxson said. “It’s probably being used by someone else to sell in your territory.”
“Either way, it’s not good shit. I want to find the people distributing it and then I want them out of my city,” Dane said, standing up. “You know I don’t like rudeness.”
“Let’s go.”
“Give me a second. I just got to go and let my new woman know I’m heading out.”
“New woman?”
“Dude, she gives good head. Do you know how hard it is to find a woman willing to suck cock like a fucking pro?”
Dane didn’t even wait for his response.
Jaxson knew he should be used to this by now. Dane fucking loved getting his cock sucked. It wasn’t like it caused him any trouble. He worked for Dane. Simple as. They were best friends, and even though Dane tried to hide it, he had the brains of the operation, whereas Jaxson had the strength and was willing to do whatever it took to take out their enemy.
For fifteen years they’d made it work, and now they ruled this fucking city. No one sold their shit on the streets without Dane’s absolute say-so. Of course, this came with its own brand of bullshit as well, like the coke that lay on the table. They now had a new deal to take care of.
Seconds later, Dane came out of the bedroom, a big, fat smirk on his face.
“I don’t even want to know,” Jaxson said, holding his hand up to stop whatever Dane was going to say.
“You ever want to test drive her, be my guest.”
They left the apartment, and as they entered the elevator, Dane’s cell phone started ringing.
Jaxson stared straight ahead, bored.
“Hello.”
“What the fuck?”
“Where is she?”
Jaxson tensed up and glanced at Dane.
“Keep her fucking there and you tell her when I get my hands on her, I’m going to fucking kill her.” Dane ended the call.
“What’s up?”
“Noelle. Who else? Fucking woman doesn’t know how to relax. She’s on the streets again, feeding the damn homeless.”
****
Noelle kept her arms folded as she glared at the three men who’d stopped her from approaching the two men huddled near the trash. She hated seeing it, and seeing as she couldn’t open the bakery she wanted to so much, she instead decided to help those with less than her.
Damn, stupid brother.
He was so pigheaded that he wouldn’t let her live her life. It was so infuriating at times. She was twenty-five years old, not a child anymore, and he really, really needed to stop treating her like one.
“You could just let me go,” she said.
“Not going to happen, Noelle. You know not to come onto these streets.”
“I can’t believe you told on me,” she said. “I thought we were friends.”
They gave her a pitying look.
The truth was, no one could be her friend until they were all vetted by Dane. It had been that way for a long time. In recent years though, ever since she’d turned eighteen, all of her supposed friends ended up in his bed. She didn’t want to know how good Dane was in bed. He was her brother.
She cringed at the memory of how some of the women she’d attempted to befriend had talked about him and his dick. One woman she ended up walking away from in the restaurant it got that bad.
Fortunately, none of them had been with Jaxson because that would just break her heart. Not that she had any real feelings for him. Of course not. He was her brother’s best friend, second-in-command, and all around badass. She’d seen the fear in men’s eyes and the interest in women’s whenever he entered a room. For her, she just liked him. He’d always been nice to her, and the truth was, she had a sweet spot for the man.
It was a crush going nowhere.
If Dane couldn’t even accept her having a friend, there’s no way he’d allow her to date.
The two men she’d attempted to be with had ended the night pissing themselves because Dane and Jaxson showed up together and began talking about guns and fighting, blood and gore.
She was under no illusion about what her brother had done and did. She knew that deep down, he was not a good man. There was a darkness inside him, and she got it.
It’s why he was so protective of her. To keep her safe from the decisions he’d made.
It sucked.
She glanced around the street, seeing no one paying them attention. “I could just sneak away. You know. No one would notice.”
“We’ve already called him, Noelle,” Frank said.
She winced.
Of course, it was like a single hint of him brought her brother out of thin air. She saw his car, and seconds later he advanced across the street and was right in front of her.
The men who’d been watching her stepped back.
Cowards.
She stared into the fiery eyes of her brother.
“Seriously? You’re going to do this a-fucking-gain.”
She tilted her head to the side. “What is wrong with helping people?”
“Do you have any idea how many people want to hurt me?”
“Not a whole lot, otherwise they’d be here right now, killing you.”
“You’re being a giant pain in the ass.”
“I’m being no such thing. You’re being unreasonable. Why can’t I help people? What do you expect me to do all day long? Sit at home, waiting? Reading? Cooking? What?”
“Why not bake?”
“I’ve already baked for the entire building, Dane. You’re being unfair. I can’t get a job because you’ve made sure that no one will hire me. Everyone fears you. You won’t even let me start my own business because guess what, I wouldn’t betray you. But no. I can’t do anything until the great and almighty Dane tells me I can.”
“Why can’t you be like other women and just enjoy shopping?” Dane asked.
“I’m not like all women, and not all women love to shop. I like to do other things.”
“You’re not doing this. Not on the street. Not anymore. Got it?” He grabbed her arm and began tugging her across the road.
“Hey, stop it.”
It wasn’t too busy just yet so no cars honked at them, but she wished they would just so her brother would wake up.
People were watching, and she hated it.
“Damn it, Noelle. I’m trying to protect you,” he said, letting her go when he was at the car. “Why can’t you see that?”
“I can see that, but what you’re saying is there’s no way for me to have a life because you need to constantly protect me. That’s not fair.”
“Dane, you really need to go,” Jaxson said, speaking up.
“Look, I’ll head to this on my own. Take her and, I don’t know, talk some sense into her.” Dane pushed her into Jaxson’s arms.
He grabbed her shoulders, steadying her.
Dane glared at her. It was the classic “disappointed brother” look he enjoyed giving her, which always made her feel like a pain in his side. “I’m not going to go through this all the time with you, Noelle. Stop being a pain in my ass.” With that, he turned on his heel and left.
She watched him going, and it saddened her that she’d annoyed him to the point of him leaving.
Jaxson didn’t let her go. He leaned over her and opened her car door.
“You didn’t even lock it?”
“I was perfectly safe.” She wasn’t about to admit that she forgot. It would just be too much humiliation at this point.
He shook his head. “Come on, let’s go.”
She climbed into the passenger side without any arguments, hating that she felt this pain at hurting her brother.
Jaxson climbed behind the wheel, and she rested her head against the glass. She wasn’t in the mood to watch him today. Frank gave her a wave, and she did the same back as Jaxson pul
led away from the curb.
“You’re a stubborn one, that’s for sure.”
“I wasn’t trying to be stubborn. I wanted to help people.”
“How many times have you come to this same spot?” Jaxson asked.
“Six.”
“Wow, that’s a lot.”
“There’s a lot of people who need a helping hand. There’s nothing wrong in giving it to them.”
“I didn’t say there was, but six times, that’s a lot. I’m surprised Frank knew about it.”
“He didn’t. It’s the first time I saw him there, and he stopped me the moment he did.” She slumped down in her seat.
“Six times is dangerous, Noelle.”
“I have nothing to do with my brother’s business. How can any of this affect me?”
“You’re not that stupid, but if you want, I’ll appease you. You’re Dane Hunt’s sister. You’re the only one that Dane has close.”
“There’s you.”
“Sweetheart, they would have to take me first. I’ve got a reputation for not being a nice guy.”
“So I’ve got to figure out a way of being a not nice person, and that will work?” she asked.
“You think you can handle it?”
“Of course.”
“Okay, how do you feel at the sight of blood?”
“Ew, it’s gross.”
“I’m willing to kill to get people to fear me, Noelle. You’re aware of what we all do. It’s not pretty. It will never be pretty, and you need to face facts now rather than live in this little bubble that you have set up for yourself. Are you willing to do that? To take another’s life?”
Just the thought of it filled her with a great wave of sadness. There’s no way she’d ever be able to take a life. She couldn’t do that. She wouldn’t want to ever do that.
“I can see it in your eyes, Noelle. This is not the kind of person you are.”
“I don’t want to keep living my life afraid, Jaxson. I can’t do anything. I can’t go out with friends because he’s always sleeping with them. I can’t have a boyfriend, or a job, or do anything without him interfering with my life. What do I do? How can I stop it? I want to live a life, but I don’t want Dane to be there to ruin it.”
