  “That’s because you inspire me and I like it. A whole lot of it.” Landon ran his hands down the curves of her ass, pulling her tight against him. He could get used to this, really fucking used to it. Pressing his face against her neck, he breathed her in, relishing every single scent of her, the touch, the taste.

  After stepping into the shower, he moved between her thighs, stroking her clit and feeling how wet she already was for him. Kneeling down in the shower, he lifted up her leg and tasted her once again. He’d never get enough of her. She was the best thing he’d ever had in his mouth.   Over ten different hotels.

  Sleeping in the car multiple times.

  Constantly on the move.

  Bounty hunters kept on coming.

  Tulip cried out as the doctor Rick had given him the information on stitched her arm. He had a bullet wound to his shoulder, a bloody lip, a black eye, and a couple of slashes to his body. They were both dirty. The last hunter had caught them in the car, pushing them off the road, totaling the vehicle, and then hunting them down through the woods until a bullet had grazed Tulip’s arm, and well, he ended up getting shot in the shoulder.

  “I’m sorry,” the doctor said.

  “It’s fine. I guess I’m not used to being stitched like this. It’s all fine.” She tilted her head back, gritting her teeth.

  Landon didn’t go to her. He didn’t touch her.

  At the start of their little adventure, it had been perfect. The two of them together, finding their own way with each other. Now, it was just a nightmare, and he knew it was only going to get worse.

  One day, one of the hunters wasn’t going to miss. The grazed arm looked bad, but it could have been her heart, or her head.

  “I’m going to call Rick,” he said.

  Tulip opened her eyes and nodded in his direction.

  Leaving his woman behind, he stepped into the doctor’s office and pulled out his cell phone. Staring down at his uncle Rick’s number, he felt numb, but this was the only way.

  After he dialed the number, Rick answered on the third ring. “I’m already organizing a car.”

  “I don’t think it’s a car that we need. You know it and I know it. Dad wasn’t stupid or careless when he made this arrangement. We fucked up. I messed up and people know it. I wasn’t thinking and when I killed him, I wasn’t thinking about Tulip. It doesn’t matter how you doctor the records, he had everything in place to let people know someone killed him.” He ran a hand down his face. “There is only one way this ends.”

  “Landon, I just need a little more—”

  “Time?”

  “Yes.”

  “The only time you will get is if the payment is given. My body will end it all. I have to die, Rick.”

  “Don’t give me none of this martyr crap, Landon.”

  “It’s not crap. You’re not the one sitting here while the love of your life gets sewed up, are you? No. I’m tired of this shit, Rick. I’m done. I’m going to end it and the only way to do it is to die. I’m coming home, and you’re going to handle it. End of discussion.” Landon ended the call and then clicked on Tamsin’s number.

  He waited for it to dial.

  When she didn’t answer, he hung up and started again.

  This time, she did, and she sounded a little breathless. “Hey, Landon, sorry, I was working.”

  “Great. I was just checking in, seeing how you were.”

  “I’m doing great. I’m still working and school is amazing. I love my life, Landon, so much. I can never thank you enough for all that you’ve done for me.”

  “You don’t have to thank me. In fact, things are getting a little tense around here. You’re not going to hear from me for a while, okay?”

  “Landon?”

  “Don’t worry. I have everything covered.”

  “What’s going on?”

  “I’m just taking care of a few things. Love you.”

  “Love you too, Landon. If you need me to come home…”

  “No. I need you to have the life you always wanted.” He smiled even as he felt like a complete and total monster. “I’ve got to go now, sweetie. We’ll talk soon.”

  He went back to find the doctor finishing up bandaging Tulip’s arm.

  “Is everything okay?” she asked.

  “Yeah, it’s fine. More than fine. Come on, we’ve got somewhere to be.”

  ****

  One week later

  Tears filled Tulip’s eyes as the car came to a stop.

  Her life. Her very existence had changed.

  She was back in England, probably wealthier than when she’d left, with a brand-new apartment and a new life, away from all the chaos of the Denton world.

  The cost?

  Landon.

  He was dead.

  Gone.

  She wiped at her face as more tears fell.

  “This is your place now. It’s protected. There are guards, and if anything seems strange to you, or you’re not happy, give them a call. When you get in, you’ll see the file with all the relevant information. Also, this is for you. If you need to reach me or one of his brothers, the numbers are all saved in there,” Rick said, handing her a mobile phone.

  “Why didn’t you save him?” she asked.

  “Tulip, I told you what happened.”

  “And I know how he spoke of you. He wanted this, didn’t he?” she asked. “He wanted to die to protect me.” She sobbed. Her arm still hurt from the bullet she’d taken to protect him. “I never even got to tell him that I love him. It’s not fair.”

  “Life isn’t fair but you know that.”

  “Don’t,” she said. “Don’t even start giving me the stupid talk. I know how fucked up life is.” She sniffled. “He died without even knowing how I felt.”

  “You did love him then?”

  “He’s the only person I’ve ever loved. I didn’t say it because … people leave. I didn’t want him to go and now I will never see him again.” Tulip covered her face as she sobbed out her pain. Landon was dead.

  His arms would never be around her.

  He would never love her.

  “Landon told me you wanted your parents to die,” Rick said. “I can make that happen if you’d like. I can deal with it before I have to go back.”

  She shook her head. “No. The only thing you have to tell them is I don’t want to see them, ever. They couldn’t even keep me. The least they can do is leave me the fuck alone.” She climbed out of the car.

  Being near him wasn’t helping.

  Landon was dead.

  He was gone.

  Walking into the apartment complex, she saw that it was nice, with a front desk. One of the men smiled at her, already grabbing a key.

>   “Hello, Ms. Vine.”

  Rick had arranged for her identity to be changed. She was now Tulip Vine. Her past life gone, which was another reason why she didn’t want her family to know about her. She was supposed to live a life without Landon. Without anyone.

  Taking a deep breath, she made her way up to her new place. The moment she entered, she knew the old her would have loved it. Security, space, and it was clean. No odd smells. It was perfect, everything she could ever dream of.

  Only, Landon wasn’t here. Collapsing on the ground, she drew her knees up to her chest.

  “It’s all going to be okay. You’re going to be safe. I promise.”

  “Landon, there’s something I need to tell you.”

  “Tell me when I get back.”

  Landon never came back. They went back to the Denton household, where she slept in his bed, and when she woke up in the morning, Rick was there. He was covered in blood, his somber expression telling her everything.

  Landon wasn’t coming back.

  “You know, I thought this place would be perfect for you,” Landon said.

  She frowned. His voice wasn’t in her head. She looked up and there he was.

  Tulip stood up and shook her head. “This isn’t real.”

  “I know. Kind of crazy, really.” He held a walking stick. His face was a mess with cuts and bruises and he winced with every single step he took.

  She had no choice but to pinch her own arm. “Ouch.”

  “You’re not going to wake up.” He took hold of her hand and placed it against his chest. He wasn’t a ghost. His heart beat against her palm. “I’m alive.”

  “Wait, but … what?”

  “The bounty hunters were going to keep coming. Rick knew it and so did I.” He pointed at her arm. “I wasn’t going to have you hurt again, and so, I knew I had to die.”

  “But you’re not dead.”

  “I am. Landon Denton is dead, shot and killed by a bounty hunter. My body has already been buried. My old life is completely gone. You’re going to have to start calling me David West.”

  “This isn’t happening. You’re alive?”

  “No, Landon is dead. I’m gone. I’ll never be able to go home and I’ve got to live a quiet life, which also includes becoming a mechanic, and one day owning my own shop. Rick has set everything up for me. In the meantime, I get to marry you, Ms. Vine. You and I will get our happy ever after.”

  “Does your family know?”

  “Rick, he’s the only one who knows. As far as everyone else, including Jade, I’m dead, and if Rick does his work properly, they’ll believe you’re dead as well.”

  “I don’t understand.”

  “My death will force you to end your own life. You want to be with me. Only with me.” He stroked her hair back. “I thought of everything. All you have to do is marry me.”

  “Wait, is that a proposal?”

  “Yes.”

  “It’s not very romantic and I haven’t even told you that I love you.”

  “Do you?”

  “Yes, but that’s not the point. You didn’t let me know. You didn’t give me a chance to—”

  “Say goodbye. There was no need. I’m not going anywhere and neither are you. I love you, Tulip, and I know you love me. You and I, we’re together in this life.”

  Rather than question it, Tulip threw her arms around his neck. “Yes, I’ll marry you. Yes, I love you. Don’t do anything crazy or stupid like that again. I don’t think I can handle it.”

  He wrapped his arms around her and she closed her eyes. “I’m so glad you’re alive. I love you so much. You can’t ever leave me.”

  “I’m not going to, Tulip. Thank you for giving me a chance and not giving up on me.”

  “Never. I will never leave you. I love you too much.”

  ****

  Mason Savona cursed as he saw Tamsin walking across the street, without a care in the world. She looked happy. Her smile tugged at his fucking soul but what he didn’t like was the fact his father wasn’t too far away.

  The evil bastard had seen her.

  He had to make his move now.

  Following her at a steady pace, he knew his brothers were all ready with the car. Once he took Tamsin, he would have to go back to the Dentons. He knew they were going to be hurting with the news of Landon’s death spreading like wildfire throughout their circles. The bounty had been paid in full and the debt wiped clean. No one was after the youngest Denton brother, but now he needed Tamsin, his association with the Dentons in order to overrule his father. He had a plan, and leaving this young woman to live her life wasn’t going to help him get what he wanted.

  Mason struck when Tamsin least expected it. He already had the chloroform on the tissue, and he placed it over her mouth. She struggled for a few seconds before finally giving in. She was his now, and there was no way his father could get his disgusting grubby hands on her.

  Epilogue

  Six months later

  “And then your mommy was so angry with Daddy because … well, I wasn’t a very good friend.”

  “Do you really think she can hear?” Tulip asked.

  “Yeah, she can hear. Why would they get babies to listen to that boring classical stuff if they couldn’t hear? They want to bore them to death.”

  “Don’t even start. I saw you listening to it yourself. It’s relaxing.”

  “Nah, I’m all for the heavy metal.”

  Tulip burst out laughing and Landon did the same. To the outside world, he would always be David. Tulip called him it, but in his own head, he was Landon. Never in a million years did he ever imagine he’d give up his family for a woman.

  Being a Denton was all he’d ever known. Killing his father had set the course of his life. He’d done it because he truly believed he had nothing to live for, whereas now, he knew the truth. He had Tulip to live for. His wife. They’d gotten married in a registry office, bringing their lives together.

  The past six months hadn’t been easy. They were learning all kinds of new things together and he loved her more than anything.

  “Are you still happy?” Tulip asked.

  She asked him every other week.

  “With you, Tulip, I’ll always be happy.” He placed his hand on her heavily pregnant stomach just as their little girl kicked. “Holy fuck, did you feel that?” he asked.

  She cupped his face. “I know you get tired of me asking, but I know you, Landon. If you were struggling, you’d tell me, right?”

  “Yes, I would tell you if I missed getting shot at and dying every other day. I don’t miss anything. I have you. This life, and there’s nothing that will pull me back. Of that, I promise.”

  He kissed her hard, knowing there was no way in hell he’d ever let this woman go. She completed him and he would take every second he had with her to show her what she truly meant to him.

  She’d given him a second chance. She made him want to live, and he would give her the world for allowing him to feel this way.

  Pierce Casey, or Forge as most of his club called him, took a long, deep draw on his cigarette and waited for Peterson to arrive. His crew, Hell’s Slaves MC, were behind him, waiting for the son of a bitch to turn up. He didn’t like to be
kept waiting.

  Peterson owed him a lot of money, and he was tired of the excuses. The only reason he put up with the bullshit was because he happened to find the old man entertaining. The son of a bitch was mayor of this town and happened to have a serious gambling problem. Forge was all about helping those in need. The mayor liked to use his club to deal with certain problems, old skeletons in the closet, and being the nice guy he was, Forge was more than happy to oblige at a cost.

  Now the debt was overdue, and Forge and his crew had done what was necessary to keep Peterson’s reputation squeaky clean.

  He was bored of the entertainment, and it was time to step it up a notch or two, or even three. He didn’t have any problems hurting the bastard, and in fact, would rather enjoy hearing him squeal. There hadn’t been enough bloodshed in his life of a late, and he was growing tired of being nice.

  Just as Forge was about to give up and head back to his clubhouse to plan his strategy with his men, three black cars slowly pulled up across the abandoned plot. He took a final draw on his cigarette before throwing it to the ground and stamping on it.

  Stepping forward, he knew two of his men were by his sides, Dog and Hound. Dog was his VP and Hound his enforcer.

  There was no doubt his other men were waiting, hands poised on weapons, prepared to make this very bloody if they had to. Before the night was over, if Peterson had fucked with him, he’d slit the bastard’s throat.

  One of the guards opened the back door and Peterson, with all his airs and graces, climbed out, buttoning his jacket as he did.

  “You think this is a fucking joke?” Forge asked.

  The door of the car remained open as Peterson stepped forward. If Forge didn’t recognize terror so well, he would have assumed the man before him was cool as a cucumber. But he wasn’t. The telltale shaking, the pale face, and overall fear dripped off him. He liked to make men nervous and well, this fucker was exceedingly so. Even with his band of security, it didn’t mean he was safe.
