  Getting to his feet, he made his way into the kitchen. Eggs and bacon were in the fridge, and he found some hash browns in the freezer.

  He started cooking as his cell phone rang. Without looking who it was, he answered.

  “I need money.”

  Tensing, he stared down at his phone, and saw he didn’t recognize the number.

  “Fuck off, Suz. You’ve got to be fucking kidding me.”

  He was so angry that he almost smashed his phone. It was only the fact he’d smashed several phones in the last year that stopped him.

  “I’ve got fucking nothing. You want me to keep my mouth shut, you’ll fucking pay.”

  “Don’t even think you can threaten me, whore.”

  “Strawberry’s due at school this year. There’s nothing stopping me from going to the school, and taking my poor baby out of school.”

  “You’ve got a fucking death wish.”

  “I want money, and I don’t care how I get it. Just get it to me.”

  The line disconnected. The rage built inside him, and he quickly dialed Duke. He was going to end Suz the moment he saw her. There was no way he was going to be blackmailed by a fucking slut every time she wanted some money.

  “What?” Duke groaned.

  “Are you cheating?”

  “Why did you call?” Duke asked, groaning some more.

  “I just got a call off Suz.”

Crazy sighed. Apparently not. “I’m not giving her any money. She needs to be dealt with. She threatened to take Strawberry away from me, and no one threatens to take my kid from me and gets away with it.”

  “Are you ready to take her life?”

  “You took your ex’s life.”

  “My ex almost killed Holly, and she was a bitch, and determined to fuck the club over. I didn’t hesitate. You hesitated.”

  “I’m ready to kill her. I was ready to do so last time.”

  Duke sighed. “It’s still not easy taking a life. I’ll call Pike, and we’ll handle this as a club matter.”

  “Let me know when you want church.”

  “Do you know where Suz is?”

  “No. She’ll come out of hiding for the money.”

  “Then we’ll deal with her. Fucking way to start the weekend.”

  “See you soon, brother.” Disconnecting the call, he leaned against the stove. He was so fucking angry. “Calm down.” He got his name for going a little crazy when his anger got the better of him.   After several minutes of breathing in deeply, he finally gained control, and started to fry up some bacon.

  Strawberry went to the sitting room, and he watched her turn the television on.

  He really needed to get a home big enough. Strawberry deserved the chance to run out, play, and explore, not be stuck in front of the television. He didn’t trust sending her outside on the patch of grass near the building. There were some sick fucks out there.

  The bacon was sizzling, and the bread toasted, with the scrambled eggs keeping warm, when Leanna padded toward the kitchen. He saw she was wearing her jeans, and his shirt. She’d tucked her hair behind her ears, and she smiled at him.

  Leanna looked so … pure. If she’d not come so hard on his fingers yesterday, he wouldn’t believe it was the same woman staring back at him. She glanced toward Strawberry and took a seat.

  “Did she wake up?”

  “A few times. I promised I’d leave you to sleep, and I kept that promise.”

  “You didn’t have to.”

  “She’s my responsibility. I’ve got no problem with it. Besides, I liked watching you sleep.”

  She rolled her eyes.

  “What do you have cooking there?”

  “Breakfast.”

  He plated everything up, and called Strawberry to join them. It was a surreal experience, eating breakfast as a family. Crazy rarely sat down for breakfast.

  Giving Strawberry the tap on the leg, he watched his little girl spring into action.

  “You’ve got to come to dinner with us, Leanna. Daddy’s going to buy ice cream, and me a toy.”

  “I promised Strawberry that I’d take her out for dinner, and ice cream. If she’s good enough, she’ll get a toy.”

  “It’ll be fun,” Strawberry said.

  “It’s her last summer before school.”

  “Sure. Why not?”

  “Good.”

  Strawberry left to brush her teeth, and Crazy got to work on dinner.

  “You put her up to that,” Leanna said.

  “What?” he asked, concentrating on the dishes in front of him. How the hell did she know that?

  “I’m happy to go out to dinner with you, and with Strawberry. You didn’t need to use her to manipulate me. Besides, she got a toy out of it.”

  “Can you believe I told her no to the toy, and yes to the ice cream?”

  “I feel sorry for her teachers. If they’re not careful, she’s going to be running rings around them to get what she wants.”

  “I can’t complain. She’s my little girl.”

  Leanna chuckled, and he reached out, running his thumb across her bottom lip.

  “Tonight, I can’t extend the invitation to spend the night.”

  “I don’t expect you to be free.” She bit her lip, and all he wanted to do was bite it. “You’ve got responsibilities, and I respect them. I adore Strawberry.”

  “How about Sunday night?”

  “All of us together?”

  “No, I can get one of the guys to babysit. I want to finish what we started last night.”

  “Damn twenty-four hour bugs.”

  He couldn’t agree more.

  Cupping her cheek, he tugged her close, and slammed his lips down on hers.

  “Strawberry?” She spoke up in between kisses.

  “It’ll take her thirty minutes to do her teeth. I’ve got to kiss you.”

  The dinner date turned out better than Leanna thought it would. She enjoyed having fun, and even though they drew the attention of several customers, she still had fun.   At around noon just as she was about to look at doing lunch, her doorbell rang.

  Opening the door without looking who it was, she saw Crazy on the other side. There was a time when she would only ever see him every couple of days. Suz would bring Strawberry to the apartment, or not even bother to pick her up.

  “So, I’ve been called, and asked to invite you.”

  She frowned looking from Strawberry up to Crazy. “To invite me to what?”

  “To the barbeque. Holly called me. All the guys have gotten some meat, and are waiting for us. Would you like to join the Trojans for dinner?”

  “Please, Leanna, please.”

  “I’ve got nothing better to do. Let me get changed.”

  Glancing down at he
r shorts and top, she shook her head. “I’m not going to look a mess?”

  “No. You’ll fit right in, I can guarantee it.”

  “Daisy is picking us up.”

  She guessed that was Daisy.   “I can do that,” she said.

  “I wanted to.” He brushed his lips across her cheek, and for a split second the rest of the world fell away.

  “When’s Beth and Maria coming in?”

  “Later tonight or tomorrow morning.”

  “She staying at the club?”
