  Chapter Seven

  The following Sunday

  “What’s going on with you and the awful neighbor?” Beth asked.

  Elisha paused as she took a piece of celery. “What?”

  “You never told me what happened after the confrontation. I was expecting a call.”

  Elisha took a bite of the celery trying to take her time so she didn’t have to answer. “You could have called me at any time. I don’t stop you from calling.”

  Beth started to chop the celery ready to go into the coleslaw. The kids were out in the yard playing with a large swimming pool, and Andrew was lighting some coals underneath the grill. They had several of their own neighbors around for a barbeque, and if Elisha had known, she’d have stayed home. Well, she’d have invited Brant around, which she’d been doing every single day this week. Maybe she should be ashamed of calling on her neighbor to answer her needs, but she just couldn’t help it. He aroused her in such a way that she just couldn’t turn him down. She wanted him badly. During work, she found herself thinking about him, and what she wanted to do to him.

  He even had her cell phone number now, and sent her texts about what he wanted to do with her. They couldn’t use his house as Sean was there, and she’d come to see that Brant liked to fuck wherever he wanted. They were not bound by rules with each other. They both had sex where they wanted.

  Yesterday they hadn’t even made it past her doorway before he closed the door, thrust her up against it, and started to fuck her raw. The condoms she’d owned for a couple of months hadn’t lasted.   Taking a deep breath, Elisha stared up at her older, beautiful sister. “Something may have happened.”

  She grabbed the bowl of vegetable cuttings, taking them to the composter in the back yard. Elisha smiled at some of her sister’s neighbors, not really interested in talking or getting to know them. She gave Andrew a quick wave, and walked into the kitchen.

  “What happened?”

  “Do I have to have the third degree?”

  “You called me Monday about a kiss, and you never told me what happened when he came to see you. You’re the only person I know who’d run away from a hot guy who wanted to kiss you. It just makes you completely weird.” Beth frowned, shaking her head.

  “I never claimed to be normal.”

  “And you show it, Elisha, all the time.”

  “What are you ladies talking about?” Andrew asked.

  “Elisha screwed her neighbor,” Beth said.

  “Beth!”

  “I doubt that,” Andrew said, laughing.

  What!

  “Excuse me?” she asked, turning to look at her brother-in-law.

  “You wouldn’t randomly screw a guy. It’s not clean and seemly.”

  Placing her hands on her hips, she glared at Andrew, angry with him. “I’ll have you know, you’re so wrong. I totally screwed my neighbor, and I’ve been screwing him all week.”

  Andrew smirked. “It’s a good job that I invited him around then. Hey, Brant, how are you doing?”

  She spun around, only to find no one was there. “You’re an asshole.” When she turned back, she found that Andrew was no longer there.

  Beth was laughing, holding her stomach. “You should have seen your face.”

  “It’s not funny.”

  “That’s Andrew’s thing. He saw that he’d upset you, and he didn’t want to do that, so he, erm, told you Brant was there,” Beth said.

  “I get what he did. I don’t agree with him.”

  Beth shrugged. “So, you’re sleeping with your neighbor.”

  “I wouldn’t exactly call it sleeping.”

  Her sister whistled. “Do you like him?”

  “He’s an artist.”

  “So? He could be a total asshole.”

  “Yes. I like him. I really do.” Elisha smiled, unable to help herself. “He makes me laugh.”

  “That’s a step up from pretty much every single guy you’ve been with, right?”

  “Yes.” Elisha took a seat at the kitchen island. “What do I do?”

  “About what?”

  “Andrew’s right, it’s not me at all.”

  “Honey, Andrew is a guy who can just about handle getting his wife pregnant. Speaking of pregnant, you’re being safe, right? No mistakes.”

  “I’m not going to get pregnant. Watching you, it taught me.” She saw the flash of hurt cross Beth’s face, and she tried to repair the damage. “I’m sorry.”

  Beth held her hand up. “You do know that Andrew and I, we didn’t want to get pregnant?”

  “What? I thought you both did.”

  “I’m grateful for all of our kids, and I know we’ve got a lot of them. Four is a lot.” Beth shook her head. “Andrew and I, we had a lot of plans, and by a lot of plans, I mean travel the world, enjoy each other, finish college.”

  “You got pregnant out of high school.”

  “We were together since we were both eleven, Elisha. He’s the only boy I’ve been with. The only man I want as my husband, and he’s a wonderful father. We talk about what our lives would be like, and sometimes, there’s a little yearning that we’d not made that mistake. Don’t get me wrong, we wouldn’t change what happened. We love our kids, but we do take time to think about what our life could be like.”

  “Andrew does love you.”

  “I know. I never doubt his love for me, and he never doubts mine.” Beth sighed. “Sometimes, Elisha, you’ve just got to take what life throws at you. If it throws you a ball, you kick it a little. If it doesn’t, you just keep on running.”

  “I don’t think that makes any sense.”

  Beth reached across the island and took her hands. “Don’t think about what you should do with Brant. Let your own feelings rule this one. If you want to have sex with him, and nothing else, then have sex with him. Have some fun because one day, you’re going to be old, and looking back. Don’t ever look back with regrets, as that is the hardest thing to do.”

  “Do you have regrets?”

  “No regrets at all. I always wanted children, and there’s always time for Andrew and me to get what we always wanted when we’re a little older.” Beth stood up. “I better go, and start taking out some food.”

  Elisha helped her sister and stood with Andrew at the grill, preparing buns and helping serve up.

  “I didn’t mean to offend you in there,” Andrew said.

  “It’s okay. You won’t be the first guy to do it.”

  “Believe it or not, Elisha, I consider you a sister, so my first instinct is to go and kill this guy. It’s either kill him, or make him take you down the aisle.”

  She burst out laughing. “You’re lying?”

  “I’m not. It’s the way they make me feel.”

  “Wow, okay, I’m officially in shock.”

  “Don’t be. You’re my little sister in all the ways that matter. I love Beth, and she loves and worries about you.”

  “She worries about m
e?”

  “All the time. She’s proud of your business, but she worries that it takes up too much of your time. She wants you to be happy.”

  “I am happy.”

  “Does Brant make you happy?”

  “Yes, he does. It’s just, erm, it’s just…” She couldn’t think of the right thing to say in case he got a little overprotective.

  “I get it. I don’t like it, but I get it. From the first moment I saw Beth at school, I loved her. I was her best friend, and slowly, I showed her that no other guy would love her like I do. I hope one day, some guy will look and feel about you the same way I do about Beth.”

  “Thank you.” Andrew was the joker, rarely allowing himself to be brought into something serious. She hadn’t always got along with him, and right now, she was seeing a side to him, she doubted many people got to see. Her family was opening her eyes to everything that was around her, and in that moment, she truly hoped she’d find what Beth and Andrew shared.

  “Where’s lover girl?” Sean asked.

  “At her sister’s.”

  “Missing her?”

  “I’m shopping because some little brat keeps eating my food, and pissing me off. Why did you even bother to come?” Brant asked, turning toward his brother. They were in the local supermarket buying groceries for the following week. Sean had an appetite that rivaled his own, and with him being home, he was eating him out of everything. There wasn’t even bread to make toast, and he always had bread.

  “What else was there to do? I was bored, and besides, you always buy boring shit.”

  “I buy food I can eat.”

  “You’ve spent every evening around at Elisha’s, and you always come home satisfied. I’ve heard the two of you in the garden, eating. I bet she’s a damn good cook.”

  Elisha happened to be a fantastic cook, but he wasn’t about to tell Sean that. The moment he was alone with his sexy little neighbor, he wanted to do naughty things to her. Even now, standing in the supermarket, he was desperate for her. He was going to see her tonight. They had an agreement. He scratched her itch, and she did the same for his, and he had a big itch.

  “Even Kasey has been calling,” Sean said.

  “Kasey?”

  “Yeah, she apologized, and said that she wanted to make it up to you. Once you didn’t answer, she went into more description about what she wanted to do to you. After you didn’t respond, she started insulting you, and then Elisha, and once I heard the filth coming out of her mouth, I told her where she could take her skanky ass, and what she could do with it,” Sean said.

  “What did she call Elisha?” Brant asked, getting angry.

  “You don’t want to know.”

  “Tell me.”

  Sean sighed. “Fat, ugly, all that evil shit that mean bitches seemed to like calling each other. I don’t get why they do it. It’s fucking sick. They’re supposed to be on each other’s side, and yet they are so not.”

  Brant gritted his teeth. “She hasn’t stopped by the studio. I didn’t even know she’d called.”

  “I hope we don’t have a bunny boiler on our hands.”

  “Kasey shouldn’t be a problem.”

  “I don’t know. When did a fuck start calling you back?” Sean asked.

  Brant couldn’t argue. For the rest of the trip around the supermarket, Sean didn’t say anything else about Kasey. His little brother was too busy arguing about what actually went into the shopping basket.

  Brant wasn’t the best cook, so he tended to buy things already pre-made, which had Sean complaining. Brant wasn’t a cook, would never be a cook, and if Sean wanted a woman to cook for him, he should go back to their parents.

  “Why haven’t you invited Elisha around to our place?” Sean asked.

  “Our place? No, it’s my place that you’re invading. When will you be leaving?”

  “I’m on summer vacation. What’s the problem?”

  “The problem is I don’t want my little brother around when I’m with my woman.”

  “Seriously? You’ve got an issue fucking a woman. You’ve never had a problem before.”

  Brant finished paying for their food and followed his brother outside. “Elisha is not like other women.”

  “She’s got a pussy, hasn’t she?” Sean asked.

  “Watch your mouth.” Brant snapped the words out. He didn’t want her disrespected. Fucking hell, what was wrong with him? Whenever Sean had bad-mouthed Kasey, he’d never cared, and yet one bad word against Elisha, and he was angry.

  “Wow, she is different if you’re going a little crazy at me being my usual charming self.”

  Brant placed his groceries in the trunk of his car. “I don’t think it’s funny.”

  Sean tilted his head to the side, and all signs of joking around disappeared. “Maybe you need to find out why you’re so protective of her.”

  “What?”

  “No woman has ever left you wanting to be her knight in shining armor, and yet, Elisha, a woman you barely know, has you being protective of her. Be careful, big brother. Your heart may not be as cold as you think.”

  Brant didn’t believe his heart was cold, not by a long shot. Elisha had gotten underneath his skin, and there was no getting away from it. The finished shopping in silence, and he climbed behind the wheel.

  “I’m heading out tonight if you want to invite Elisha ‘round for drinks or something.”

  “You’re staying out?”

  “Maybe. I’m feeling lucky.”

  “Be careful when you’re out,” Brant said, concerned for his brother.

  “I can hold my own, and I don’t intend to upset anyone, or get in any fights. I don’t believe in fighting for a pussy.”

  Shaking his head, Brant turned on the radio, and listened to the latest tunes that were blasting out. He passed Elisha’s house, and saw that she was still gone. Damn, he didn’t like the fact that he missed her. It was wrong of him to miss her as they didn’t have a relationship; they had sex.

  They packed away the food, and he once again had a full fridge and freezer. Once that was done, he mowed the lawn, and made his way inside for a shower just as Sean was leaving. He made his brother promise to call him in case he was in any kind of incident. Brant loved his brother, and if anything was to happen to him, he’d never forgive himself.

  After his shower, he grabbed a book, and sat in his sitting room, staring at the pages. He wasn’t in the mood to paint or draw anything. Glancing at the clock, he wondered if Elisha was spending the night at her sister’s. She rarely did it, or at least that was what she told him.

  “You’re not in a relationship. You can both go out and have fun.”

  She’s not going out. She’s at her sister’s house.

  Grabbing his cell phone, he flicked it open to see there was no text message.

  “You’re turning into a girl.” Clicking his tongue, he shook his head. “You don’t need to call her.” Opening his book, he tried to read for the third time, only, nothing was happening.

  Dropping the book to the floor, he grabbed his cell phone, and before he could question what he was about to do, he sent her a text.

  Brant: brother has gone. You coming around?

  “Why did you send that? Why did you do that?” He was sitting alone in his home, and he had nothing to do. This was why he kept Kasey on hand, in case of boredom.

  His cell phone dinged.

  Elisha: Just got home. You want me to come to you?

  Brant smiled. “Oh, baby, I do.”

  Chapter Eight

  Elisha raised her hand, about to knock on Brant’s door when he opened it. There were no words as he wrapped his arm around her waist and tugged her into the house. He pressed her against the door, claiming her lips. His cock rested against her stomach, and she gasped out at the sheer size. Even after a week’s worth of having sex, she still hadn’t gotten used to him being inside her. She loved how damn big he was, but she also loved the way he used his ha

  “You look damn sexy in this dress, but I prefer you out of it,” he said, grabbing the zipper at the back. He glided it down her back, and started to release her dress. She let out a sigh as the cool night air brushed across her exposed skin. Brant tugged her away from the door, and she started to remove his clothing at the same time as he got her naked. He led her down a long corridor, toward the stairs.

  “Where are we going?” she asked.

  “To my room. It’s about time I took you in an actual bed.”

  They never made it to a bed. That was one little tidbit she hadn’t told her sister. She could just see her sister would have something to say about that.

  By the time they entered his room, they were both completely naked.

  “Sean’s not here?” she asked.

  “No, he’s not here, and he’s not going to be here for the rest of the night. I wouldn’t care if he was here. I’m not ashamed of you, Elisha, or what we’re doing.”

  She’d been going to kiss his lips, and she drew back. “Do you think I’m ashamed of you?”

  “No, it’s just…”

  “What?”

  “You didn’t invite me to meet your sister.”

  “We’ve been having some fun for the past week. I didn’t want you to feel rushed about what we were doing.”

  They were stood in his bedroom, and she stepped away from him, crossing her arms.

  “Don’t do that,” he said, grabbing her arm, and tugging her close. “You don’t have to hide who you are from me, babe.”

  “I’m confused right now.” She tried to pull out of his arms, but he wouldn’t let her go. Elisha was pleased he wouldn’t let her go, but she needed to have space. Everything confused her. She liked being in his arms, surrounded by his warmth. They’d not spent the entire night together yet, and part of her was pleased about that. She had a feeling that was going to change tonight. “We have something casual going on.”
